System Control
MacPrefect includes a component that allows you to control various miscellaneous settings.
Using the System Control Tool you can prevent users from performing certain actions.
- You can prevent users from using the Mac OS 7, or later, feature of holding down the shift key at startup to prevent extensions from loading
- You can protect the hard disk so that if the machine is booted from a system disk the internal hard drive will be write protected, and therefore items cannot be added or removed.
- You can clear the AppleShare Auto login information so the no server volumes are automatically mounted at startup.
- You can prevent users from using the command, shift, 3, and command, shift, 4 key combinations to take screen shots.
- You can prevent users from turning off AppleTalk.
- You can specify whether there should be any Finder windows open at startup, or whether just the disk window is opened. This provides a more uniform, and therefore less confusing, view to students using the machine.
