WatchIT 2.0 >> Features
WatchIT! is smart
It's important that WatchIT! logs time to the correct name. In today's increasingly complex windowing environments, with more and more floating windows and tool palettes this sometimes presents time-monitoring software with a significant challenge.
WatchIT! solves this problem using, where necessary, special "filters". These filters perform two primary functions:
- Determine the window on which you're working, ignoring floating palettes, toolbars, dialogs etc.
- When the window in which you're working is found, analyze the name to produce, where applicable, a more 'appropriate' name to which to log time.
Auto Pause
The following example, taken from Adobe PhotoShop, shows a window containing an image - the floating monitor shows that WatchIT! has ignored the floating palette, and removed the "RGB, 2:1" text from the window title to deduce the correct name.
There are times when you will not be actively using your machine, for example, when you're having lunch, or on the phone. WatchIT! will still log time whilst you are away. However, after a user defined period of inactivity WatchIT! will start logging time to a special entry called "Paused".
WatchIT! always remembers the last segment of paused time and allows you to assign that time to a name of your choice - for example after a client phone call you may want to assign that time to the client with whom you were talking. WatchIT! provides easy ways to do this.
WatchIT! is configurable
You can modify WatchIT!'s configuration on each machine to suit the particular requirements of your working environment. This is achieved using the WatchIT! Settings pseudo control panel.
- The Pause Interval item lets you specify how long before WatchIT! automatically pauses. Paused time can later be reassigned.
- The Applications... button allows you to specify certain applications within which individual window time is not monitored. Within Mail packages, for example, you usually don't want to monitor time to individual messages.
- The Windows... button allows you to specify certain windows which are never significant - Clipboard for example, although in most cases WatchIT! can determine this information for itself.
- The Utilities... button shows the installed WatchIT! Utilities, and allows you to have them launched at startup.
- The Filters... button shows you the Filters that are currently installed, together with software versions for which they were designed.
Utilities
The WatchIT! utilities are available from the WatchIT! menu which appears, depending on your installation options, at the end of every application's menus.
Configure WatchIT! allows you to modify a range of options, for example the automatic pausing interval, used by WatchIT!
Set WatchIT! Logging Info... allows you to enter information such as user name, job and task.
WatchIT! Monitor displays the floating monitor.
WatchIT! Paused Time... allows you to reassign the last interval when your machine was paused.
WatchIT! Application processes temporary timesheet information.
Powerful Reporting
Once the WatchIT! Timesheets have been processed into the WatchIT! Application you have full access to all the information collected by WatchIT!.

The WatchIT Application main window
The WatchIT! Application provides an easy to use, yet flexible, method of creating new Report windows that contain only certain information. For example, you can create a report that will display all the jobs created after 10:00 am.
This is a fairly simple report but you can create reports as complex as you like, for example, you could create a report that will display all jobs created in Adobe PhotoShop after the 12th August 1997 by the user Mark Warren.
For full information on reporting and also how to configure and use the WatchIT! Application you should consult the user guide.
The data gathered by WatchIT! can also be processed into FileMaker Pro template we have available, for further information about this please send an email to Support@Hi-Resolution.com
Modular Installation
WatchIT! comprises a number of separate 'packages' to allow you to install only those parts which are appropriate for your particular requirements.
These packages include:
- WatchIT! Complete - installs all the WatchIT! Software
- Invisible WatchIT! - installs WatchIT! in an 'invisible' configuration. It displays no menu bar icon, no indication that it loaded at startup, and no processing or configuration options.
- Non-Configurable WatchIT! - installs WatchIT! in a configuration where time can be viewed, but no configuration options can be changed.
- Configurable WatchIT! without processing - installs all the WatchIT! software except the ability to process timesheets.
- WatchIT! Network Gathering - installs the WatchIT! Collector application and associated software. This allows a single machine to process timesheets collected on multiple networked machines.
Networking
WatchIT! was designed as both a single-user, and multi-user product.
As a single-user product all the WatchIT! software is installed on a single machine - information is gathered automatically and processed using simple menu commands.
As a multi-user product WatchIT! is able to deliver timesheets over your network onto a central machine for processing and analysis. This happens transparently to the individual machine users.
A special application called the WatchIT! Collector acts like a 'beacon' - networked machines deliver completed timesheets to the Collector machine, and this data is subsequently imported into the WatchIT! Application that now contains time from all your machines. This makes central processing and analysis a breeze.
